When to choose a short dress for a wedding

A short dress works for a registry office wedding, a daytime reception, a garden party or a summer wedding. A knee-length hem lets you move freely and copes with hours on your feet, ideal for long celebrations where there’s little chance to sit down. Thirteen of these dresses have short sleeves, so you can go from the ceremony to the evening without a jacket.

Styles you’ll wear again

The sheath dominates, with 14 of the 18 designs. It’s the easiest shape to restyle after the wedding with different shoes and jewellery. Crepe, used on half the designs, resists creasing and survives a day of travelling. Five dresses come with a matching cape or veil that completely changes the look.

The details that make the difference

Ten dresses have a draped bodice, six feature embroidery and four have lace details. Seven use sheer fabric, such as chiffon sleeves or a sheer shoulder panel, adding interest without weight. Three have a wrap skirt, a particularly flattering choice for pear-shaped figures.
