How much lace?

An all-over lace dress is the most formal: the pattern runs from bust to hem and gives texture to the whole silhouette. For a lighter look, a lace panel along a slit opens up the skirt without weighing it down. Lace appliqués on tulle start at the bodice and cascade towards the hem, often onto the train, where they really show in photos from behind. Dresses with lace on the bodice or sleeves only are listed in our other collections, and the Fabric filter will help you find them.

Floral or geometric lace?

The pattern sets the mood even more than the amount of lace. A botanical design, with leaves or flowers, leans towards boho and romantic styles. A geometric pattern or a heavier guipure lace feels more classic and formal. Look at the close-up photo on each product page: we always show the pattern in detail.

Lace and sheer effects

Lace on tulle creates a subtle illusion effect, used on skirts and backs alike. On a skirt, it hints at the line of the legs while keeping the structure, which is why you’ll see it on our mermaid dresses and on designs with a slit.
