Detachable skirts & trains

A detachable wedding skirt goes over the dress for the ceremony and comes off for the evening. A detachable train does the same at the back. The idea is always the same: two looks, one dress, one budget.

How it attaches

A detachable skirt fastens at the waist, over the dress, with a belt or hooks hidden in the seam. A detachable train attaches higher, at the waist or the shoulders depending on the design. Either way, you should be able to take it off in a few seconds, on your own or with a little help: if it means undoing the dress, it’s missed the point.

Tulle or chiffon?

Tulle adds volume without weight and creates the most striking contrast between the two looks: choose it if you want the change to be noticed. Chiffon stays fluid and adds length without width; it suits dresses that are already full, extending them rather than competing with them.

Dresses designed for two looks

Some of our dresses include the detachable skirt from the design stage, with a built-in fastening and a lining made for both versions: our 2-in-1 convertible wedding dresses. A skirt can still be added to a dress that wasn’t designed for it, but a fitting is essential to check the waistband sits in the right place.

From the registry office to the celebration

This is the most common use. A short or straight dress is perfect for the registry office; add a long tulle skirt over the same dress and it becomes a ceremony look. Two events, one dress to buy.

Where to try these designs

Our detachable skirts and trains are available from the partner boutiques that stock our collections, by appointment. Try them on with the dress you have in mind: it’s the only way to check how they sit at the waist. Find a stockist near you.
