A-line wedding dresses

An A-line wedding dress is fitted through the bodice, then flares gently from the waist. That A shape lengthens the silhouette, skims the hips and flatters almost every figure.

Why A-line suits almost everyone

The gradual flare skims over the hips without adding volume, and the waist is defined without feeling tight. The result is a longer, more balanced silhouette. It sits halfway between the ball gown, with its built-in volume, and the straight cut, which hides nothing.

A-line or ball gown?

It all comes down to where the flare starts and how full it is. A ball gown starts from a clearly defined waist and opens out dramatically, with added volume underneath. An A-line dress flares gently, with no petticoat or structure. If you’re torn, the A-line is the safest choice.

Fabrics for an A-line dress

Tulle comes first, for a soft flare, followed by chiffon and satin. Our chiffon A-line dresses are close to our flowy and straight styles, while those in satin or mikado hold their shape more. The fabric decides how full the skirt really is, as much as the cut itself.

A-line dresses for a civil ceremony

Styles with a short train or no train also feature among our registry office and civil wedding dresses: the gentle flare lets you move freely, so it’s an easy cut to wear all day.

Try them on at a bridal shop

Our A-line wedding dresses can be tried on at partner boutiques, by appointment. Each has its own selection, so once you’ve found your nearest stockist, ask them about the design you love.
