A mermaid wedding dress is fitted from the bust to the knee, then flares out. In lace or crepe, it’s our most figure-hugging silhouette, showing off the waist and the curve of the hips.

Lace mermaid wedding dress with 3D flowers and open back
It highlights the waist and hips, and the low flare makes the legs look longer. It’s particularly flattering on hourglass figures. It is a demanding cut, though: the fabric follows the body closely from bust to knee.
These are often confused. A mermaid dress stays fitted, then flares out noticeably, usually below the knee, for a fishtail effect. A fit and flare or trumpet dress starts to flare a little higher, around mid-thigh. A sheath dress stays close to the body all the way down, with no flare at all. The sheath is more understated, the mermaid more dramatic, and we offer both.
A mermaid dress shortens your stride, so bear that in mind for the ceremony and the dancing. Crepe designs are the most comfortable, lace designs the most formal. Some of our mermaid dresses have a slit that makes walking easier.
A close-fitting cut like this really has to be tried on. Ellebeline is sold exclusively through partner bridal shops, with fittings by appointment: find a stockist near you and ask which designs they carry.
